Our tool for today is named Broot, it's mainly a file explorer but with some perks, let's list some of them:

  • Easy navigation: where you can flow between folders only using arrows
  • Preview files, and a good perk here, images are included too
  • Also it has great compatibility with installed graphical applications so it can also open files using them

  • View hierarchy of folder and children/descendants, which gives an extremely better overview which is great when mixed with the light weight advantage of terminal over GUI file systems

  • Related to the previous point, you can also see the size of each directory in that tree which is a great disk space analysis feature

These was some main features, other ones includes doing file operations like:

  • Moving files between directories
  • Searching for files
  • Sorting
  • show git status of files

Give it a try, it will save you some context switching time and might be a replacement of your Finder or convenient File explorer
